Austrians love their food and they love eating out. Their cuisine is a combination of various national influences and food cultures. Just like the city, the food of Graz is also a mixture of tradition and contemporary. Graz has adopted mediterranean lifestyle with a lot of life going on outside, a lot of cafés and restaurants. We don’t want to overwhelm you with too many different options, so we will list only a few of our absolute favorites.
Glöcklbräu is located in the central part of Graz. If you’re into traditional Austrian cuisine, this is one of the most popular places to go. They have the best Gulasch on Earth, Austrian stew with beef, onions, carrots and potato. What makes it really special and delicious are the spices. You won’t be disappointed.
For those who like something more fancy and eating with a gorgeous view, we recommend eating at Aiola at Schloßberg. They are a bit pricey, but the brunch we had there, as well as service was outstanding. Not to mention the wide assortment of alcohol and hot beverages.
Our favorite was certainly Molly Malone, the Irish pub in the city center. We ended up going there a couple of times. They serve all sorts of burgers, fries, toasts and salads.
We had Irish Cheddar Beef Burger and Grilled Chicken Salad. The burger was delicious, plain without any fancy ingredients. Just 200g of meat, topped with melted cheddar cheese, onions, lettuce and tasty barbecue sauce. The second you take a bite, you taste that juicy beef combined with sweetness of onions and cheese.
The salad was fresh, very large and filling, with good dressing. Chicken was super tender, full of flavor with a nice crust.
