Must Have Travel Apps

Must Have Travel Apps

Helpful travel apps can make all the difference when traveling. They make life on the move so much easier. There are so many out there do download. So, which are really useful? Besides the obvious communication apps (WhatsApp, Skype) that I need to stay in touch with my friends and family back home, I like to simplify my life with a few additional ones.

Map App
There are some really good map apps. It is important it has a search function, where you can search for particular addresses. We usually use Google Maps. It helps you find your way around a new location for free and shows you the best routes from place  to place. You can save maps offline, which simplifies the navigation.

WiFi Map
Unfortunately finding free internet is still a big struggle, but this app makes your life a little easier. It’s a worldwide directory of wireless networks. This is v
ery convenient when you are in a new city. It will show you where all the hotspots are and all the passwords.

My personal favorite is google translator with support for about any language you can think of. It’s grammatically not always perfect. but it makes simple tasks like reading road signs or restaurant menu really easy. In addition to typing translations, google translate provides instant camera translations.

This app does exactly what the title says. It converts absolutely everything you need. It helps you convert currency as well as weight, distance, temperature. Converter is a very simple app to use and very thorough.

Restroom Finder
One of the most uncomfortable things when you are traveling is when you realize that you need to go to the bathroom and you don’t know where to find one. This is basically a toilet finder. It will find and locate every free or paid toilet nearby.

As far as I know, all apps are available for both iOS and Android. If you have any apps that you find useful and I didn’t mention them, please share.

  1. The restroom finder is definitely a valuable app, lol! We’ve gotten into the habit of carrying TEP Wireless with us when we travel so we don’t worry about the wifi and we always have our maps. Aside from some hiccoughs on the train with it, it’s pretty reliable throughout Europe. Definitely worth the expense for us!

  2. Haha who’da known there was an app for finding a restroom! Such a vital app, especially in Europe where restrooms are not always free. I always head to the nearest McDs or Burger King bc they’re always free and relatively clean! Thanks for sharing with #TheWeeklyPostcard!

  3. Depending on where I am traveling too, I like to use Yelp to help me find the best restaurants. I also use Facetime to keep in touch with people without any international phone charges. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard

  4. These are very useful apps. I’m going to share them my husband. He is the one that loves to use apps when we travel. #TheWeeklyPostcard

  5. I had no idea there were apps that tell you where there are bathrooms! Definitely need that one. We do have Google translate and it’s quite handy. We’re also missing the conversion one, but my hubby is so good at math that he does it quickly in his brain Wish I could do that! haha

  6. Great app suggestions. We always use Google maps and translator. My husband usually downloads a street/city map too that doesn’t require wifi. We love metrO to help navigate public transportation in many major cities around the world.

  7. Thanks for the information. It was so helpful; I love the restroom app and the WIFI map, I will download it.
